STAGE MANAGER ON THE BOOK – JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Production Manager We Made This is seeking a Stage Manager on the Book to work The Girl with Incredibly Long Hair, which is an ambitious immersive work for young audiences. It takes the story of Rapunzel and reimagines it for our times, where we don’t expect the girl to need saving by the boy, and in which female characters can shape their own destiny. This project is inspired by our experiences of telling stories to our own children and wanting them to experience high quality theatre, which doesn’t perpetuate sexist stereotypes.

This is a key role in the production team for a Stage Manager with some experience and interest of devising new work.

We Made This is a new company whose name makes explicit the collaborative nature of our process. We don’t subscribe to a style or methodology other than the form is dictated by the idea. Founded by Matt Ball and Jacqui George in 2014, we’re based in South Wales, and for each project we work with a collection of artists & makers based on the needs of the project.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Attending rehearsals.
Compiling rehearsal reports and rehearsal calls.
Creating and monitoring the rehearsal schedule.
Calling and operating sound for the show.
Maintaining the rehearsal room.
Assisting with propping
Pastoral welfare of the company.
Attending and assisting on the get-in at both venues.
To manage and work alongside the Technical ASM from the get n period.
Other relevant tasks as requested by the Director and the company.

Person Specification

Experience of creating a book from scratch.
Experience of the devising process.
Experience of cueing.
Experience of operating and problem solving QLab.
Full clean driving licence.
A self-sufficient approach to work.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to relate to and communicate with a wide range of people, including artists.
A positive attitude.
A flexible approach and willingness to adapt to changing circumstances.

Rehearsals dates: (Cardiff) 5th – 29th March 2018

Technical rehearsals: 3rd April 2018 Blackwood Miner’s Institute, 8th April 2018 Weston Studio, WMC

Performance Dates: 4th – 6th April 2018 Blackwood Miner’s Institute, 9th – 13th April 2018 Weston Studio WMC £500 per week (6 week contract)
